It was a game that deserved goals for sure. Both teams attacked with plenty of flair. The ball never found the back of the net though as England and Argentina battled to an entertaining scoreless draw at the Under 20 World Cup in Columbia Monday.
A huge crowd gathered at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot to witness a meeting between two countries who have shared a consequentially rivalry on the football field, and whose caped in blue and white striped were pleased to see the name of Juan Iturbe on the team-sheet.
The 18 yr old quickly got into the game, tormenting his opponents with slick footwork and instant changes of speed. Itrube had his first sight of goal on 19 minutes, but dragged his shot just wide.
Jack Butler pulled off a superb diving save to deny Argentina defender Leandro Gonzalez Pires, who had strayed up from the back, on the half-hour.
Two minutes later England's Billy Knott had the ball in the back of the net, though it was ruled out for offside. The same player had a decent effort on 43 minutes, but it went just wide.
Ten minutes after the restart, substitute James Wallace produced a wonderful long ball to find Saido Berahino, who held off Hugo Nervo and forced Esteban Andrada.into an excellent save.
Argentina bossed possession over the next 20 minutes, but they struggled to carve out any meaningful chances. England did with nine minutes to play. Michael Ngoo somehow kept the ball amid two challenged and freed Adam Smith, inside the area, but the latter's shot was brilliantly tipped round the post by Andrada.
German Pezzella then missed a sitter, after a cross found him unmarked, six yards out. Argentina probed for a deadlock-breaker in the final minutes, but it proved elusive. The result left Argentina top of Group F on four points, one above Mexico, with the England on two and Korea DPR on one. England will need a win against Mexico in their final group match.
